I’m supposed to be tapering by now, but due to disorganisation on my part (mostly) the last two weeks haven’t gone to plan and I’ve missed a couple of key training sessions on the bike. So I’m keeping on riding. On Monday the grandparents kindly took on little Luke for the day and I rode from Morecambe to Ambleside and back via Hawkshead. The lanes from Levens through Brigsteer are really superb riding and the only really naff stretch on the whole route is the main road from Ambleside to Bowness. The hill between Bowland Bridge and Fell Foot is a toughie, but that’s the only major obstacle on the 80 mile ride.
I’m planning a couple more long rides and then it really will be taper time.
I need to wish good luck to all the Etapistes this weekend ascending the fearsome Mont Ventoux (22km straight up with most of it around 10% and the likelihood of high temperatures – yikes!), and especially to Simon Lewis whose blog I read. I’ll look forward to reading the reports on that one.
I also need to say well done to Steve Pallett who recently became an Ironman by finishing Ironman Austria in an enviable eleven and a half hours, including an astonishing 5:32 for the 112 mile bike leg – a record for his tri club. Awesome effort, Steve, I only hope I can go half as well as you at Bolton.
