Post Traumatic Stress

It seems that everyone pretty much felt the same about the Tour of the Pennines last weekend: it was brutally hard. When the results came out I was disappointed to be missed off the times for the long course. It turns out that the mistake I made was missing a left turn in Newhey (The A640) that would have taken me over Moorcock to Denshaw and then back to Uppermill. I wasn’t the only person to make the same mistake – I saw 4 others do the same thing. So, although we missed a timing station on the Moorcock road, at least another 4 could be added to the 38 finishers of the long route. My official time was 4:46:21, but I’m estimating that I lost at least ten minutes faffing about with the nav error, and of course, I didn’t follow the official route, but it puts me around the top ten for the over 40s which is pretty pleasing.

Official results here.
Photos here. I actually seem to be enjoying myself in this one.

This video gives you a taste of the conditions we faced – imagine battling through this for over 4 hours! Nightmare.

Finally, here’s the route I rode:

I did several sportives last year and I think I managed to make a wrong turn at some point or another on every single one of them.

Irronically I had no trouble following the signs on the off-road Meridas.
