I originally planned to start my season yesterday at the Fylde Coast half marathon in Blackpool. The weather was benign and I’m sure it was a great event. I was stuck at home still recovering from my asthma attack of 3 weeks ago. I’m starting my 9th triathlon season and in all that time I’ve never had an asthma episode that’s kept me from training for so long. Already, I’m relieved that my Ironman for the year is in September, not July as I would be on the back foot. As it is, I can afford to build up steadily for a couple of weeks before trying to get up to a more normal training schedule.
The next event I’ve actually entered is the Beaver half Ironman on May 26th which is over 3 months away. I’m not worried about building up enough for this race, but I’m going to have to look at the calendars to find some events to do in the next couple of months. February would have been a very early start for the season, but the end of May would be extremely late.
