Home Stretch

The training is done, there is nothing more to be do other than have as restful and healthy a week as possible. So having a day trip down to London today, a course in Newcastle tomorrow and a day in reading on Wednesday is just ideal! Hopefully I’ll have time for a little run tomorrow, a short ride on Thursday and I may even get down to Pennington Flash on Friday for a practice swim. That’ll be enough.

At this stage of the game it all feels a little unreal and it won’t be until I go to register that the realisation will finally sink in: Sunday is Ironman UK. As I blogged last month, I’m feeling quietly confident and relaxed, but the truth is that high winds, hot sun or heavy rain can dramatically change the dynamic of the day. With luck, it will be as calm and cool as it was yesterday when I rode around the course with Billy.

What’s the course like in terms of hills compared to those on the ‘hazel grove hilly’? I’ve signed up but not had chance to ride the course, but did my last ride on Sunday with plenty of hills – blaze hill, pyms chair, goyt valley and winnats pass – how does it compare?

Hi Ben, that’s loads more hills than IMUK! Total ascent on the two laps is less than 1600 metres. 4 big hills: Sheep House twice and Hunter’s Hill twice. They’re tough hills but not as bad as Blaze or Pym’s. Best of luck and let me know how you get on!
